Go Forth and July

My nail habits are currently spiraling out of control.  Fourth of July weekend was four swell days.  Now that I have a job again, I’m turning into Noel and going  to bed at a reasonable hour and waking up at an unreasonable one.  The good thing about working for an aesthetician is free skin care products and plenty of time for minesweeper during hour and a half long facial appointments.  The bad thing is comments like, “Oh dear, you’ve been picking at that blemish haven’t you?”

Also wrote my first post worth some bow chica buuuucks. Should be writing regularly for them. Very excited.

I now get motivated once a month.

I've been doing this craft, DIY thing with a friend, where we try to do a project as fast as we can. First craft day, I made these earrings. Really sloppy pieces of shit, just from a bunch of old necklaces, and unfortunately a little heavy, but I'm still kind of diggin it. Don't mind my expression please- just trying not to let up how my ears are being pulled out.

Next time, I decide to tackle this coat. My dad gave it to me in high school, and I wore it every day for years after that. Holla, nineties. The coat meant a lot to me, but I could never bring myself to wear it any longer. Too boxy, too grungy, too worn out...

I ordered a variety of studs, trying to find the largest I could. (Which was only 1". Really disappointing, but what ev.) I painted them all a flat black enamel and proceeded to cram them under the lapel and down the back of the neck. They are pretty crappy quality too, but I am trying to tell myself that the black paint hides it a bit.

Here, you can kind of see them going down the back, but I ran out of studs much sooner than I anticipated. I ripped out the lining and tore out the shoulder pads to combat the boxy shape, and finished off by painting all the hardware on the coat matte black, except for the zipper teeth. I love how it turned out, but would like to add more- For now though, the modifications have me wearing my coat again.

And here's some cat that thinks he's in charge of everything. He is totally uninvolved with DIY day.

Delusional?

Untitled

Untitled2

(F 21 dress, DIY’ed jacket)

Am I delusional for wearing this jacket? Dunno. I weirded it out a couple months ago when I added these shoulder wings. I think the jacket was originally a gift from Noel a thousand years ago when I was a freshman in high school. Do you remember this Noel? Anyway, despite the ridiculousness of it, I love the idea of cold structure with florals for spring.

Alsooooo, I need a trim very very VERY desperately. But I really can’t spend money on it. Should I do it myself? Or just wait?

Also, how much hyperbole is too much hyperbole? Like, way, Way, WAAAYYYY toooo much?

You had me at the words "online scrabble."

So the other day I watched about 10 hours of Big Love. I'm still not sure how I feel about that show; either I love it or I hate it. Who knew I couldn't differentiate between the two? After 10 hours you'd think I would have a clue, but I don't. Most of the characters are annoying, frustrating, and have some major entitlement issues, but I'm still fascinated. Oh well...

So while I was watching all this Big Love, I started making this thing, which turned into what I'm calling a neck piece. I'm not sure how I feel about it either. I kinda like how it looks almost Egyptian, but I don't think it really "goes" with anything. At least now I know what happens when I'm left with a whole HBO television series, about 30 ft of rope, and a spool of copper wire.

subversive

Subversive Jewelry
I have a million projects that I never follow through with. I'm great with ideas, dismal with carry-through. Bah. Anyway, one such project was to try and create something reminiscent of Subversive Jewelry. Lots of things I like going on in this stuff, which I can absolutely not afford. Anyway, I love pearls in unexpected treatments. The first necklace I love, the oversized pearls of different tones offset by tattered ribbon and clinging rhinestones. And the messy, goopy spill pictured in the second pearl necklace is such a nice contrast to the more traditional, sedate single strand. Both are so nice and messy and look sort of thrown together, but also seem so decadent. If I wore them, I would eat cake in my stockings all day and sneer at peasants.
Multi-chained things always rank high with me as well. The dirtier, more mis-matched, more straggly the better. I would wear this pin and bracelet and instantly have the strength and fortitude to be out on the town all night. I know it.
So... I've collected various small pearls and one strand of oversized pearls through garage sales over time. I snatched up some oversized pins such as in the pictured brooch, but they're a hideous gold that just looks tawdry. In a dime store sort of way, not a cake eating, stockinged rocker sort of way. I have accumulated dull chains throughout the years, like everyone I'm sure, and also have bought some of varying designs when on sale at places like Forever 21. I'm really considering throwing all the metal bits into a fire for a while, and see if I like how it all comes out later, but don't want to have to polish off the soot for too long, as I am lazy. Nonetheless, I really want to get on the ball with this project. I'm tired of my current jewelry, and I'm tired of having so many plans that rarely come to fruition. Let's say: end of July. I want this.
