A million days ago...


Quite a while ago Tara and I went to Lola's for 80's Video Dance Attack. We were the only ones dressed for the attack until some radtacular girl arrived in a lacy white prom dress. Tara was excited about her fanny pack and also had one blue eyeshadow swoop. Here she is making a funny mouth and then, trying to stretch her neck out. I wore Tara's vintage fascinator with veil and unspecified amounts of black clothing. And in case you're available, we met a guy named Roy who is looking for a nice girl.

subversive


Subversive Jewelry
I have a million projects that I never follow through with. I'm great with ideas, dismal with carry-through. Bah. Anyway, one such project was to try and create something reminiscent of Subversive Jewelry. Lots of things I like going on in this stuff, which I can absolutely not afford. Anyway, I love pearls in unexpected treatments. The first necklace I love, the oversized pearls of different tones offset by tattered ribbon and clinging rhinestones. And the messy, goopy spill pictured in the second pearl necklace is such a nice contrast to the more traditional, sedate single strand. Both are so nice and messy and look sort of thrown together, but also seem so decadent. If I wore them, I would eat cake in my stockings all day and sneer at peasants.
Multi-chained things always rank high with me as well. The dirtier, more mis-matched, more straggly the better. I would wear this pin and bracelet and instantly have the strength and fortitude to be out on the town all night. I know it.
So... I've collected various small pearls and one strand of oversized pearls through garage sales over time. I snatched up some oversized pins such as in the pictured brooch, but they're a hideous gold that just looks tawdry. In a dime store sort of way, not a cake eating, stockinged rocker sort of way. I have accumulated dull chains throughout the years, like everyone I'm sure, and also have bought some of varying designs when on sale at places like Forever 21. I'm really considering throwing all the metal bits into a fire for a while, and see if I like how it all comes out later, but don't want to have to polish off the soot for too long, as I am lazy. Nonetheless, I really want to get on the ball with this project. I'm tired of my current jewelry, and I'm tired of having so many plans that rarely come to fruition. Let's say: end of July. I want this.

So the other day for some reason, i was watching some sort of volleyball competition on tv. i guess Crocs was a sponsor for this tournament because there were like a thousand commercials for Crocs and it really pissed me off.
i know it's been said probably a million times by a million different people in a million different places, but i can't resist. i hate Crocs. I don't give a shit how many "different" looking shoes they make. I don't give a shit if they are comfortable. I don't give a shit if they are practicle. I don't give a shit if they are cheap. I don't give a shit if you only wear them around your apartment/house/dorm showers/the set of your porn movie. Crocs need to die a horrible and swift death. I'd rather get stranded on an island and eat my own feet before i'd look at anything made by Crocs. If you wear them, stop. If you are sleeping with someone who wears them, immediately get tested. If you are thinking about killing someone because they own a pair, we should talk. In the meantime, watch Law and Order, take notes, and arrange an aliby.

So with summer time, come's the crazy print princess in me. I never really like prints, except! during the summer. I can get a little out of control. Right now, i'm liking exotic animal prints, specifically of the cheetah/lepoard genre. Check up on my new favorite dress.

I got it at forever 21 for like 25 cents or some shit. I wore it to work the other day with black tights, black oxford heels, and with a white button up under it. But sometimes i like to pair it with more primal hair and a nice leg of meat. It's so raw it's right.

The great thing about Tara working at a large second-hand shop, is going in with the pretense of seeing her, and then having a great excuse to shop. "Ah well, I'm already here- might as well."
Second greatest thing: being around then for super deals, like these little oxford booties in gray patent and soft suede with bright blue insides.
Bad thing: getting carried away and buying an acid-wash denim jumper that makes everyone either cringe or giggle. Actually, I love the jumper probably just as much as the shoes. Once this weather cooperates, perhaps I'll be able to actually wear it out, instead of just admiring it in the safety of my bedroom.

who was that bitch that answered your phone 5 months ago?!

Recently i attended a formal dance/dinner thing. (yes: i am in seventh grade, no: i did not spike the punch) i wanted something simple and sleek. i originally bought a different dress, only to exchange it a month later for this one, that looks almost exactly like it except for the neck line and the criss-cross in the back.

i love it. it's from bebe and it's one of those things that makes you feel glamorous as soon as you put it on. i wear it sometimes to watch law and order and it adds a little happiness to the pedophiles and rapists. Afterall, if you can't get dressed up for good tv, than what have we to live for? (besides the inevitable alien invasion)

that's not how you play marbles. no, but that's how you keep them.

For about the past year, i've been obsessed with the idea of getting a mohawk type cut. However, my fear of committment to a hairstyle i tend to consider limiting, and possibly too edgy for the "hoochie in me," has kept me from getting it. Here are some attempts at a similar style, without the permanent cut.

Don't you give me no lip. Who do you love?

Speaking of dazzling celeb style then, I want to give some props to this girl Rihanna. I am completely enamored of her wardrobe. Check it out:

I love love love her color palette. She rocks those latex-like leggings with an ease that makes me forget about seeing them on every other young celeb. She's does so right with the hats- an accessory I still struggle with. She's always got on fucking amazing shoes and Hmm! I love old grampa looks, like in the above middle pic.

Her makeup is great and I so appreciate that she plays around with some retro looks and gets all fun with her hair. The last pic above, with her pageboy hat, little vest and high waisted pants, received some bad flack on a few sites, but I think it illustrates well her adorable little doll appeal. I've become so smitten with her closet, that I even find myself loving outfits that I normally would never have thought twice about before. Like, for the love of god, this contraption:


Well, alright. Maybe I would hold off on flowery, flowy, gauzy pantsuit. Yet if it were in all blacks and grays...

it's about time i made some claims as to people who i think have neat-o fasion. my first person of interest: lindsay lohan. i was surprised to discover recently that i actually think she has a pretty sick fashion sense; acting credentials and sobriety tests aside. let's take a look shall we, and then we'll calculate her neat-o factor.

Summer Conflictions

Summer comes and makes me want to buy summer things, like linen, or florals, or bright summer colors, or gauzy light garments. Which would be fine, if it didn't go against every other atom in my being. I use to end up with a warm weather wardrobe that I would never wear, UNTIL I finally came to the realization that I am just happier wearing mostly black all year round. Yes, perhaps slightly more heat absorbing than the other summer-residing people around me, but whatever. Anyway, accessories are so non-committal and still let me indulge in the fun. So far this year's warm weather has manifested itself in these two purses:



I've been living out of the yellow tote nonstop recently and love it. Sometimes when it's super hot though, it sticks to my arm and when I peel it away I am reminded of Kraft singles. That's ok though. I can just hold it far away from my body and still admire that blinding yellow.

If there is one particular trait that sets my style apart from my sisters' style, it has to be the hoochie in me. The hoochie in me loves short shorts, push up bras and stiletto heels, just not all at once.

I love them. They are Guess by Marciano and I am planning on wearing them tonight, tomorrow, and maybe forever.

My friend Jules had an interview at a hair salon and needed a model to prove her hair cutting abilities. So she proposed an idea for a glam buttrock/mullet/asymmetrical cut thing. It took me a week debating whether or not I should let her take my hair that I had been growing out for a year. BUT, common it's hair! It'll grow back!

So I've been wanting to buy some simpler tops. Trying to pull the whole casual/nottryingtoohard/michaelstarsads thing. So I bought this simple black V neck t shirt from some random store called Tilly's that I only went into because I was with a guy who was looking for Metal Militia shirts (I know right).

I have bought plenty of plain t shirts in the past, but they are always too thin, too thick, get stretched too easily, too tight, too big, too short (i.e. middle school midriff), too low cut, and the only really good ones are too expensive ($36 Guess). I bought this one without even trying it on because it was only $8 and now I'm hooked. It is amazing. I just bought 3 more online. I am a believer and you should be too.

Speaking of glasses...


What's up with this cover of Tina Fey?
She totally rocks. Mean Girls is great. 30 Rock is hilarious. I'm creepy excited about her and Poehler in Baby Mama, but I really hate this cover. Biggest issue: where's her glasses? I love glasses. If she wanted to do some glamor pic w/o them, it could have been a little more exciting. Am I over-reacting?
