About face

Came across UK cosmetics line Illamasqua. Why haven't I heard of this name before? I love when people can color outside the lines.

They have some great tutorial vids also. None of that stupid drawing on a paper face w/pics of products in containers. You know what I mean (ehem, cough, MAC)?
Oh, but speaking of: check this shiznit out -->

Ok, I'm still yo bitch, MAC.

Scratchy Scratchy

I totally get off on a really nice matte finish. Matte print photos look like money. Mac's matte lipsticks look like money. Have you seen that black Starbucks card? Black matte with gold embossed print. I even dig cars in primer, even though that don't look like money. And once upon a time I had 2 matte nail polishes. A dirty pewter-grey and a blue toned pink shell. I actually emptied those bottles with use, something I never do now days because... uh... Anyway, I've been seeing an exciting amount of matte nail polishes once again, which I've been wanting so bad it's retarded. I don't know why I've been holding out; it's not like it's going to break the bank. I wants some. Above is the dragon queen primping it up for Knock Out Cosmetics. They've got lots of colors, but a new "concrete" gray and "pool," a totally hot blue color, are really catching my eye. $19 a bottle. Oh wait. Maybe that's why I haven't bought any yet.

But then OPI has to come out with an entire line as well, including a sick ass green that goes by the name "Gargantuan Green." Shown above is their "Lincoln Park After Blah Blah, We Know, at Least it's Matte Now." I'm much more excited about the green, if you can't tell. They're cheap,($5 - $9) but I can't really find them anywhere except on ebay, and I just don't feel like making the effort to bid and then having to pay some stupid s&h on one measly bottle. Yes, I'm lazy AND cheap.

But what is REALLY freaking me out now is this shit. Essie "matte about you" claims to put a matte clear finish on top of any polish you have. For $10 I can have any matte color I want. OOOOOOooOOOOOO. Save meeeee.
I think I'm finally caving.

"Cheap and Chic" Bullshit

Ok, so I usually don't talk like this but I'm fed up and it needs to be said. This has always bothered me, but recently it has just gotten out of control because of the economy. I'm so tired of articles and blogs and such coming out with these articles on how to stay fashionable in this miserable economy. Essentially all of them highlight products or items that are, and always have been, out of reach of people who are living low-income lives. I am poor. I have always been poor. I will probably be poor for many years to come. And I mean poor as in there are times when I've used newspaper instead of toilet paper. I have no trust fund. I have no parent-paid credit card. I don't even have a legitimate savings account. Don't get me wrong, I think articles on thrifty fashion are great. But only if they are written by people who know what it means to be thrifty. If you want to write an article about how to shop like a poor person, then why don't you find a poor person to write it. If your idea of recession-proof fashion is limiting yourself to 10 "timeless" designer pieces this season, then I really don't think you need an article about "recession-proof" fashion at all.

What up, duckie

Miz Mooz Shaggy Moon Boots
$29.99
Clearance (surprise!) at Infinity Shoes

In case you don't hate yourself enough, here's a shoe for you. There are some other color options, but why go brown or black at this point? No one thinks you're from Earth's color spectrum anyway.

Swine Flu, here I come

Portland weather is having a major identity crisis. Started out sunny and warm this morning and now it's raining sideways so hard that it sounds like a fire hose on my windows. But I don't give a rat's ass because I am going to MEXICO. Well, not for a while, but I CANNOT WAIT.

Here's what I need:

Outrageously floppy hat. I was considering this one, but hesitating since it's the Jessica Simpson line. Now, Macy's is out of it, and that makes me want it more than ever. Dammit.

Print smocked dresses. I don't need these specific ones, pictured from Victoria Secret, just something comfy and cute that I can constantly wear a bathing suit under. However, I will not be walking around hitching up the hem, acting like I can't wait to rip my clothes off, like that second chick pictured.

New nice flat sandals. Most of my sandals are heels. Super uncool for poolside hanging or walking on beaches, unless I want to be one of those fucking really annoying girls that totters around pools in heels and full makeup. I have too many other things I am annoying about; I don't have time to do this. So anyway, I have one nice leather pair of flip flops that are about to croak, so I think I need another nice, basic, classic, flat sandal. I hate flats, so it needs to be my one pair that will go with everything. I'm pretty into this pair from J Crew.

itchy and scratchy

Ok. So I've been really excited about this for the past couple days and no one around me seems to think it's as amazing as i do. The polish you see in the blurry and pretty crappy picture above has now been on my nails for almost 72 hours! Yes. yes. yes. i kno. it's incredible. not even chipped! fanfuckingtasic! I'm hooked. I'm never buying any kind of other polish. It's China Glaze and i initially found it at the sally beaty supply next to chucky cheezes in good ol' colorado springs. They actually have tons of cool colors and i apply three coats and it lasts forever. maybe i'm just naive and didn't know nail polish that actually worked existed but i'm still stoked. YEA!

I a m a r o b o t . zzz ee zz ee bbb beep beeep beeeee

loading....... I got these new shoes of mine in the mail today after
waiting an excructiating three days! I think they're sweet like those
cash for gold commercials. The hoochie in me has always been on
the lookout for a casual heeled shoe. I'm still not sure if that exists but!!
!... this athletic inspired heel is completely amazing.

They remind me of this movie, Robo Jox, that we watched several times
a week during the mid nineties. The plot is quite ingenious really. In a
post World War III world, war is outlawed! Instead of battling out
disagreements with armies, they do so with giant battling robots
controlled by elite "robo jox." AWESOME!!! It's even cooler than it
sounds. check it outttt yooooooooo! crazy wicked fresh.

But she's not afraid of bunnies. Ohhh she will be.

I am currently not only
preparing my wardrobe
physically, but am also
preparing myself
mentally in order to
withstand my fellow
coloradians' disgruntled
comments (I wore zebra
print leggings to the mall
once and ten people
came up and exclaimed
"you're not from around
here are you?!") Wish me luck.
More to come as this evolves... if you believe in evolution... or if you don't... I guess... uhh... then... more to come as our merciful and all knowing father sees fit to bless us with. Amen.

bright lights

I don't especially care for Katie one way or the other, but I love looking at people in an entirely new light. It's got to be related to my unhealthy obsession with 'before' and 'after' pics. But anyway- These remind me quite a bit of that Anne Hathaway shoot from not too long ago, but a much heavier dose of the old school glamor sure beefs up the unrealness of these pics. These images are gorgeous, but are so impeccable and painterly. I look at them and see Katherine Hepburn and iconic silver screen themes, and secondly, Holmes as a vague and secondary inspiration. Nonetheless, an amazing project.

buttons on boots

Buttons on boots! Buttons on boots! Buttons on boots! I'm selling everything I own and running away to live in the forest with these boots.

Yes, not technically buttons, but just as worthy of my adorations!
Anthropologie Shoelaced

...and THESE here boots, yeah, those on the left- see 'em? 2 little brass buttons, that cuff, that covered platform, that cone heel- do you see that? I just might sell my soul for those. MMmm, yes. The gray ones are sure purdy too.

flashes of lashes

Felicia gave me the awesome feather eyelashes, but they're huge! I have yet to build the courage to wear them out and about.

Tara got these amazing bootie shoes by We Who See the other day. The suede is super thick and they are just so soft and comfortable. Since she is so sweet she let me wear them to work right after she brought them home. I then told her I would buy them off her or she could give them to me since I am so infatuated with them. Apparently her generosity does not extend that far though.

Submarines & Handbags

These images are so strange- I suppose as is only fitting for handbags with brass knuckles for handles, or in the shapes of blackened dogs. I really do like this shoot though. All European military old school and the potatoes are so out there... These are from James Piatt, and you can see more images at the site, and purchase these as well as some others. Unfortunately, the Persuader, shaped as a machine gun and available in pink, is out of stock.

justifications

I just bought these Adrienne boots by Frye because:
   1. I've wanted them forever and they keep popping up everywhere, torturing me.
   2. They just went on sale (almost 1/2 off!)
   3. When I called the store they only had 2 pairs left in my size and this brown color...  in California.
   4. They will ship them to me for free.
   5. Gah! I don't need any more reasons. I cannot wait until I put my grubby little hands all over them. I need to go take a walk now and calm down.
